An entity is anything Google identifies as a thing. Things over Strings is how search works today. Entities (Things) over Keywords (Strings).
In today’s AI powered environment, everything sounds more complicated. Entity SEO helps simplify your digital marketing strategy. It helps you clarify and define your entity footprint across the web exactly the way you want it to be perceived by potential customers.
Entity SEO is a mindset. You identify how you want your brand to be perceived and create messaging that reinforces that. Then apply that core messaging consistently to everything you do online. Our Free Entity Strength & Visibility Report identifies how your business name is perceived and talked about across the web.

More important than the number of brand mentions and the rankings is influencing What is said about your brand and products. Is the information up-to-date? Is it confusing your entity with another one with a similar name? Is it presenting you in the best possible light? If it mentions your brand alongside 3 other brands, what is it saying that would make people click the link to you instead of the others.
We show you how to continually reinforce the message you really want people to see.

Traditional SEO
Targets strings of text, (keywords and phrases), and backlinks to rank specific pages for search terms and drive targeted traffic to your website. There’s more to it, but that’s the short version for this comparison.
Entity SEO
Shifts the focus from simply ranking a webpage to establishing your brand as a trusted authority that search engines and AI can understand and verify. It focuses on entities rather than just keywords and links.
We answer the questions you have about Entity Optimization and show you live examples of how it works.

DEFINE YOUR ENTITIES: Clarifying the Who, What, Where, When, Why & How of each of your entities is the core of your Entity SEO strategy. Who are you? Who is your product for? Who is it not for? What is it? Where are you? Where do I get the product? When did your company start? When can I get your product? Why are you offering this? How do I get it? How do I use it?

BE FOUND & UNDERSTOOD EVERYWHERE :We help validate your brand's messaging across the web including your Google Business Profile, citations on authoritative business directories, social media profiles and business pages and anywhere else your brand is listed. More than just consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone). Consistent core values, value propositions, and messaging.

PUBLISH WITH PURPOSE: Your website and blog content, citations & social media all help strengthen your entity footprint. But just writing a post and sharing it isn't enough. Integrated Content Marketing is our multi-format, multi channel, cross-linked approach that builds brand authority, gets people to interact and talk about your brand and brings in traffic.

DON'T LET THE WEB DEFINE WHO YOU ARE: Done correctly, Google's knowledge graph can connect your name (Person Entity) to your brand entity. Sometimes your brand name adds authority to your personal name and in the case of some founders & CEOs your authority may be what strengthens your brand entity. Authors, CEOs, Founders, Customer Facing Reps and even college students & freelancers just getting started can benefit from Entity SEO.

ADD CLARITY FOR BOTH PEOPLE & MACHINES: Your products and services are each their own entity. We create and optimize your product and service pages with high-quality unique content for traditional search, AI-powered search and for higher conversion rates. We maintain the core messaging for each product on the page and in the schema markup. AI-Agent Optimization is also a service we offer. AI agents need technical and contextual clarity.

This is more than just hiring an agency to do it all for you. We train you and your staff on ways they can help strengthen and support the core messaging around your brand name and product names. Every time they comment or post on social media, write an article or blog post, or create marketing materials and ads, they have an opportunity once they understand it. You and your staff are part of the team. We take care of everything else.
An entity is any “thing” Google can clearly understand, “Things, not Strings”
Google (and AI) no longer just looks for “strings” of text (keywords); it looks for “entities” (distinct concepts like a specific person, brand, or idea). In simple terms… You own a business, it has a brand name, you sell a product, and that product has a memorable slogan. Each of these is its own entity.
Your personal name is an entity.
Your company name is an entity.
Your brand name, each product, and even that slogan are all distinct entities too.
When something triggers Google to access your name inside its Knowledge Graph, Google doesn’t just stop there. It follows the connections: This “person entity” is connected to >> this “company entity”, which operates as >> this “brand entity”, >> which sells these “product entities”, all tied together by >> this “idea entity”, your slogan.
If the starting point is different, say someone mentions your brand, the process is the same. Google finds the “brand entity”, connects it to the “business entity”, the “person entities” behind it, the “product entities” it sells, and the “idea entity” it uses as a slogan. No matter where the query begins, Google maps every piece of information it knows about each entity and how they relate.
Google files patents for Phrase-Based Indexing. This was the first major step away from single keywords. It allowed Google to understand that "New York Times" is one distinct concept (a phrase), not just three separate words.
Google launches Google Squared, an experimental tool that didn't give you links, but built tables of information (e.g., list all "US Presidents" with columns for "Height" and "Date of Birth"). This was their first public attempt at structuring the web into entities.
Google acquires Metaweb, the company behind Freebase. Google had the engine (algorithms like Squared), but Metaweb gave them the fuel, a massive, open database of 12 million entities (people, places, things) to train their system.
Armed with Metaweb's data, Google officially launches the Knowledge Graph. They announce the shift to "Things, not strings," showing information panels directly in search results for the first time.
Google rewrites its core algorithm. Hummingbird allows Google to understand the intent and context behind a query (semantics), rather than just matching keywords.
Google introduces RankBrain, a machine-learning system that interprets new, complex queries by guessing the meaning behind words it hasn't seen before.
ChatGPT launches (Nov 2022), changing user behavior forever. The "AI Arms Race" begins immediately, with Microsoft's Bing Chat (Feb 2023), Meta's Llama (Feb 2023), and Anthropic's Claude & Google's Bard (March 2023) all launching in rapid succession to compete for dominance.
With SGE (Search Generative Experience) and AI Overviews, Google now relies on the Knowledge Graph to "ground" its AI. If you aren’t clearly represented as an entity in the Graph, AI systems have limited ability to understand or surface your brand.
If you already have a documented entity footprint for all of your entities and a plan in place to reinforce or improve it, you may not need the call at all. This is for those who haven’t mapped it all out. We answer your questions and show you live examples of how Entity SEO works. We’ve been doing this since 2013, so we focus on giving you actionable insights right away whether you decide to hire us to help or not.
When Google or AI systems confuse your brand with another business, it harms your visibility and reputation. Entity Data Reconciliation is our process of identifying, correcting, and realigning those mixed signals so your brand is represented accurately and consistently across the web.
Our Integrated Content Marketing strategy is the most efficient and effective Entity SEO tool we have. It is an interlinked multi-format, multi-channel publishing approach that builds brand authority and continuously validates your brand’s core messaging across the web.
Traditional SEO focused on strings of text, like keyword density. Optimizing for things means Semantic SEO. Search engines now look for clearly defined concepts, distinct entities like a specific person, brand, or product, rather than just matching key phrases.
Google maps every piece of information it knows about each entity and the relationships between them. It can connect your personal name as a Person Entity to your Company Entity, which operates a Brand Entity, selling Product Entities. Clarifying one entity strengthens the authority of your entire network.
AI models like Google’s Search Generative Experience rely on the Knowledge Graph to ground their answers in facts based on trust signals. If you are not clearly represented as an entity in the Graph, AI systems have a limited ability to understand it and what it relates to which means it may not surface your brand in answers.
Entity SEO doesn’t replace SEO, Digital Publishing, PR, or Digital Marketing. It is a framework you place over everything you do. SEO is done while reinforcing your entities. When you publish content, you use methods that connect your entities together and that keep your messaging consistent.
But if you ask the difference between ONLY doing Traditional SEO or Adding Entity SEO… Traditional SEO targets keywords and backlinks to rank specific pages. Combining it with Entity SEO shifts the focus to establishing your entire brand as a trusted authority that search engines and AI can understand and verify across all digital platforms.
Even founders, freelancers, and new businesses benefit from Entity SEO. Defining your entities early prevents future data confusion and builds a solid foundation so the web does not define who you are before you do.
We even recommend it for students who haven’t even graduated college yet. Companies search for information about people they are considering hiring. Imagine a student spends the time to build a strong personal entity through 4 years of college. They are able to influence what gets found by companies they are applying to instead of just finding a bunch of random stuff they posted on social media.
We believe in a collaborative approach. We train your staff or help you create SOPs so they can support your core messaging. Every time they post on social media or write a blog post, they reinforce your entity. You and your staff are part of the team, and we handle the technical execution.
Yes, each product and service is its own distinct entity. We create and optimize product pages with unique content and schema markup to add technical and contextual clarity for both people and AI, which leads to higher conversion rates.
